6. When is the End Times?

People are wondering about the future and the end of the world.

The book of Hebrews 9:27-28 in the Bible says, "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him."

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 says, "He (God) will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power."

In other words, when Jesus Christ comes back, He will save His believers but judge unbelievers. Thus, everyone must decide individually whether to receive Jesus Christ with urgency because nobody knows when he dies as well as when Jesus returns.

People may be curious to what will be the sign of Jesus' coming and of the end of the world. What does the Bible tell about the end times? The Bible tells about eschatological setting for both the global revival and massive harvest in Christianity as well as the occurrence of great tribulation on the earth in unprecedented measure. Great revival and massive harvest will occur at a time when cities are in great crises and nations in unprecedented chaos.

"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come." (Matthew 24:6)

"Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows."
  (Matthew 24:7-8)

".... the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken."
(Matthew 24:29)

"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come." (Matthew 24:14)

The end times is a time that God is waking people up through great tribulation and preaching the gospel of Jesus the Son of God so that they may turn to Him.

"In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
(Acts 2:17) ...... The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Acts 2:20-21)

Thus, the end-time will be the worst time to live if you don't know Jesus the savior and Lord; but it will be the greatest time to live for those who do know Him.

We must know that God is in control of everything because God is the Creator and Sustainer and Sovereign Lord. But, we have ignored God's authority and disobeyed since Adam's original sin. God already has planned to restore sinful humanity. In the past God had spoke to people (the Israelite) through the prophets at many times and in various ways so that they may stop sinning against God, serve Him, and follow His righteous way. However, people did not listen to God and continued to sin against Him.

Thus, in these last days God sent His Son Jesus and has spoken to us through Him. Jesus is the Son of God who became a human. (He was conceived of the Holy Spirit of God and born of the virgin Mary.) Jesus is the radiance of God's glory exact image of God, sustaining all things by His powerful word. Jesus lived a perfect life and preached the gospel of the kingdom of God: "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the gospel" and healed the sick and did God's miraculous works.

However, people did not receive Jesus the Son of God even if He testified publicly and truly about God. Rather, people (the wicked) denied Jesus as the Son of God and persecuted Him and finally crucified Him on the cross. It shows clearly that they did not know God truly and continued to sin against God. They did not serve God as well as believe in Him. Jesus prayed to his Father,
"Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." (John 17:3)

But, God raised up Jesus on third day because He was righteous and should not be held by death. Jesus was resurrected from the dead. (It means that Jesus has eternal body.) God proved that Jesus was His true Son through His resurrection. Jesus' disciples (witnesses) preached out His resurrection and proclaimed to people, "Repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:38-39)

God promised that whoever repents his sins and believes in Jesus as the savior and Lord will be saved. Jesus is the only way to God. It is the good news for everyone.

God's way of salvation shows that God does not forsake sinful humanity simply but try to save all even if He sacrificed His son. God demonstrates his own (true) love for us in this: "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

How can we know God truly? We can know God truly through Jesus' death and resurrection. If we know Jesus, it means that we know God. Without knowing Jesus, we cannot know God truly and serve Him. Through Jesus' prayer, we can understand that eternal life is directly related to knowing of God and Jesus. Knowing makes fellowship. Those who receive Jesus Christ will be saved from sins and eternal condemnation in hell. But, we must not forget about an important thing: Why God saves us even through the sacrifice of His Son? It is not just for the forgiveness of our sins but after being new creation we can serve God and follow His righteous way that Jesus showed us in the Bible.

After Jesus had provided purification for our sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. But, He will come back soon to establish His kingdom. Jesus commanded His believers or disciples to fulfill the great commission. The cost of discipleship will be high and the number of martyrs many. But the love of Christ compels us to love and obey Him because God first loved us and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. Awesome demonstrations of God's power and salvation will create an environment for people to come to repentance and turn to God as revival moves across the earth. Many will call out to God and be saved.

Loving and merciful God does not want anyone to perish but come to repentance and receive Jesus as the savior and Lord for fellowship with Him and eternal life in heaven. However, not everyone will respond to God's gracious offering of salvation. The vast majority will remain unrepentant but the world will be made to confront the reality of the judgment of Jesus as the king and righteous judge, that is eternal punishment in hell because they have to pay for their own sins when they stand before God.

Jesus will come back physically (He has eternal body) to earth as the king and judge and all will see Him as His kingdom is established on earth. The dead will be resurrected with immortal body and the living will be changed into the imperishable too. Jesus will judge the living and dead (Matthew 24:30; Revelation 1:7; Acts 1:11). Jesus will defeat Satan, evil spirits, Antichrists, and their followers (unbelievers) and finally establish and rule His kingdom of righteousness and peace. The believers only will inherit Heaven, but unbelievers will be punished with eternal destruction and shut out from the presence of God the Lord in hell.

Thus, believers must preach out the good news of Jesus to the world. Jesus calls the church to intercede for the great coming revival and salvation harvest, and to prepare herself for completing the great commission that is to preach the good news of Jesus and make disciples.
