2. How Can We Know That God Really Exist?

Most unbelievers (including Agnostics) are wondering about whether or not God exist. Atheists do not believe God exist. If there is a God, why can't people recognize God?

What is the evidence of God's existence?

We need a reasonable faith about God.

It doesn’t matter what you believe. It matters what is true. Unbelief and blind faith (unreasoned belief not based on truth) doesn’t change reality. Thus, we need to search for truth.

Evolution theory is in vain and collapsed. Fossil testifies Catastrophes.

There is no scientific evidence for an ape-like ancestor for humans and apes. Why is there none like that today?? It is a blind faith.

1 Corinthians 15:39  “All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fish, and another of birds.

Genesis 1:25 “And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind.  And God saw that it was good.”

When we look around at the universe, what do we see? We see creation, art, design, and order. If everything else has a creator, artist, designer, and orderer behind it, isn’t it reasonable to expect that behind this incredibly intricate, complicated, and marvelous universe there is also a Creator, Artist, Designer, and Orderer behind it? He is God the Creator.

Romans 1:20 "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse."

How can we know God?

1. God created humankind in His own image or Spirit (Genesis 1:26-27).

God is personal. Humans are personal like God. It means that all can communicate and have fellowship with God.

2. God has revealed himself to us through....

1) General revelation:

in nature .... (it is already mentioned)

In the salvation history of God

 In human consciousness

2) Special revelation:

God has left his messages for us to know that God is the only true one through the Bible which points out Jesus Christ (Hebrew 1:1-3; John 5:39).

Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 1:3).

Thus, we can see God through Jesus truly.

3. What limits our ability to know God?

 Deception of Satan:
Satan is a fallen angel who had been driven out of heaven (Isaiah 14:12; Revelation 12:9) because he was against God, deceived the first man Adam by telling a lie, and caused him to be corrupted. He is the father of lies (John 8:44), and has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot believe in God and Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4).

 Sin:

Sin is defined that we do not believe in the God creator, but violate the law of God including all evil mind and deeds. Sin brings us away from God (Romans 5:12; Isaiah 59:12).

 Our finiteness:

Humans have limitations in every area.

 Immaturity:
Humans are not mature spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Especially, our sins separate us from God. It is the reason why everyone needs God's salvation.

Truth may have only one right answer and many wrong answers. You can find the truth in the Bible.

Jesus said, "... God's Word is truth." (John 17:17)

"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)

The Bible claims not humans, but divine authorship.

2 Timothy 3:16,17  “All Scripture (66 books in the Bible) is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2 Peter 1:21  “… Prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

What is the Bible?

The Bible is God's word, infallible and authoritative in the highest degree containing the most beautiful literature and the most perfect moral code ever devised for ever finding meaning and purpose in this world. It includes 66 books; 39 books in the Old Testament: 5 books of law, 12 books of history, 5 books of poetry, 17 books of prophets; and 27 books in the New Testament: 4 gospels of Jesus, 1 book of history, 21 epistles (letters) of Jesus' apostles, and 1 book of prophecy.

One consistent theme of the Bible, developing in grandeur from Genesis to Revelation, is God' great work in the creation and redemption of all things, through His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Thus, it is hard for us to know God more and better without reading the Bible.

How do we know the Bible is true?

1. Historical

In all the years of criticism by the skeptics and enemies of the church, no one has ever been able to identify even one historical mistake anywhere in the Bible. That’s truly amazing, because if man wrote it, we would surely find historical errors after all these years, but there are none. How do you explain this? This book did not come to us simply from the hand of man, but from the hand of God.

2. Archaeological

Out of all the 25,000 archaeological finds relating to the people, places, and events in the Bible, none disprove a detail of the Biblical record. In fact every discovery just continues to prove the Bible is true — great proof for the accuracy and trustworthiness of the Bible. If we can believe the historical and archaeological evidence for the Bible, we have great support to believe the spiritual accuracy of the book.

3. Scientific

The Bible is not a book about science nor to have purpose to describe the workings of the physical world, but it was written to explain spiritual principles — the nature of mankind, the nature of God, and how people can have a personal relationship with God. However, when the Bible describes the physical world, it is accurate. Isaac Newton, in his famous scientific work, Principia, stated, "The most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion on an intelligent and powerful Being."

Science is useful tool for both Atheists and Christians. It is not a threat to our faith. Science has proved that the universe was not always here. It means that the universe and everything in it was created. Universe has the creator. The creator is God. As science progresses, we learn more about how God works in our world.

4. Fulfilled Prophecy

Fulfilled prophecy is unique to the Bible alone. There is no other book like it in the history of mankind. The Bible is the only book in the world that contains hundreds of very detailed prophecies. As the Bible was written, 25 percent of it was predicting future events. Every single prophecy has been fulfilled except for the few remaining ones that deal with the future return of Jesus Christ.

From the Old Testament alone some 2,000 specific prophecies have been fulfilled already. And of the 333 prophecies specifically predicting an "anointed one ("Messiah" in Hebrew) who was the most striking examples, all of those concerning his first coming have been fulfilled, and those remaining have to do with His second coming. About 4 BC, a miraculous event occurred — a baby named Jesus was born to a virgin named Mary. Starting at age 30, Jesus fulfilled more and more of these prophecies about Messiah. His miracles were done many times in front of thousands witnesses for three years.

About 30 AD, Jesus was crucified (a prophecy) and died (a prophecy). Three days later, He rose from the dead (another prophecy), after which He was seen by over 500 witnesses. Since these prophecies were written down at least 400 years before they happened, there is no doubt that the Bible's writers were inspired supernaturally by God.

There is no way anyone can predict the future with 100 percent accuracy. Who is the only one who can do this? The answer is God. Fulfilled prophecy is not only proof for the veracity of the Bible, it is also proof for the existence of God.

In conclusion, if we can believe the fulfilled prophecy as well as the historical, archaeological, and scientific evidences for the Bible, we have great support to believe the spiritual accuracy of the Bible.

Thus, read the Bible and listen to the word of God, and you may know the Lord God who is revealed in Jesus Christ truly .

<God's Covenant (Testament) and the Bible>:

All human beings born in Adam's lineage inherit sin, and by committing sin, they are supposed to suffer death and judgment in accordance with God's justice, and suffer forever in Hell. However, God, who is rich in mercy, has already made and proclaimed a plan of salvation in order to restore fallen mankind to God's image (Genesis 3:15). The plan is to save anyone who receives Jesus Christ as the Savior and Lord who is God's only begotten Son, by the redemption of the sins of mankind through his bloodshed and sacrificial death. It is to restore them in the image of God, make them children of God, and give them eternal life. God chose Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel) as the passage for Jesus Christ to come to this earth in the physical body, and signed a promissory covenant with them with blood (Gen. 17:7-8, 12:2; Gal 3:17-18). The covenant is that God will be the God of Israel and will always be with them in the journey of their lives, rule them, guide them, and protect them so that they can enjoy the land of Canaan as an inheritance from generation to generation. And, by becoming God’s people, fully worshiping and serving God, and obeying the word of God, the Israelites will receive the great blessings promised by God, enjoy the inheritance that God has given them, become the kingdom of God's priests, and proclaim the living God to the whole world and the glory of God. By revealing of God, people of the world can come to God, believe in Him, be saved, and worship Him (Exodus 19:5-6; Deut. 7:9). The Old Testament contains that covenant.

However, the Israelites betrayed God, followed the world to worship idols, and broke the covenant with God. However, the faithful God did not abandon the covenant with them, and gave them the law through Moses. The law was given to them so that they could convict of their sins, repent, and receive God's promises through faith in the Messiah (Christ), the mediator of the new covenant that God will prepare and send (Galatians 3:22). God, finally, in time, to restore the covenant with them, sent Jesus to this earth as the mediator of the (new) covenant (Hebrews 9:15, 12:24). Jesus shed His innocent blood on the cross, died, and resurrected and fulfilled God's covenant (John 19:30, 34, 20:17; Matt 27:50; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Matt 26:26-28; Luke) 22:19-20). It is to ensure that the blessing of Abraham in Christ Jesus extends not only to Israel but also to all fallen mankind (Gal. 3:14). According to the covenant, we, in Jesus, can live as children of God, and receive and enjoy the eternal inheritance of heaven from God (Jeremiah 31:31-34). The Bible contains the proclamation and fulfillment of that covenant. The Old Testament is the proclamation of that covenant, and the New Testament is the fulfillment of the covenant.

The Bible is the word of God that people who met God the Creator and His Son Jesus Christ (Ex, Moses, disciples of Jesus, the apostle Paul, etc.) recorded after they heard the word of God directly or by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. So, the Bible is free from errors and is the 100% reliable Word of God. God has given us the Bible. The Bible testifies of God's work of salvation and God's judgment, starting with God's creation and the fall of mankind. So, we must learn from the Bible how we can be saved and how we must live. Man is composed of spirit, soul, and body. That means that man was not created to live only with bread, but was created to live by all the words that come out of God's mouth (Deut. 8:3; Matt. 4:4). So, man must not only eat bread, which is the food of the body, but also eat the word of God, which is the food of spirit and soul. For that, we must read the Bible every day and listen to God's Word. When we hear the word of God, faith arises in our hearts, and by receiving Jesus as our Savior and Lord through that faith, we will be saved, and by obeying the word, our spirit, soul, and body can be strengthened day by day.
